Without Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins get ready to face the Jets: "I haven't even considered changing my playing status,"
Without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa included in the game plan, the Miami Dolphins are gearing up for their last regular-season game against the New York Jets on Sunday.
Following the Dolphins' Week 16 game against the Green Bay Packers, Tagovailoa was placed in concussion protocol for the second time this season. Prior to last week's game against the New England Patriots, head coach Mike McDaniel reaffirmed this, stating that Tagovailoa was day-to-day in his recuperation and that the priority was keeping him healthy rather than getting him back on the field.
McDaniel stated that the game plan would be created with the assumption that Tagovailoa would miss another week of practice during a press conference with the media on Monday.
"There are numerous variables at play. I believe that at this time, I'm preparing for both Teddy and Skylar (Thompson) (Bridgewater). I don't think we should know anything yet about Teddy "Bridgewater, who sustained a finger injury on his right hand in the Dolphins' sixth straight defeat, was quoted by McDaniel. "And with Tua, I haven't even considered my playing status, as I already stated. I really can't even take him into account in any kind of equation until we're ready to bring that up because it is about him growing healthier each and every day."
It's really really a case where, at this point in the week, I'll be preparing for both Skylar and Teddy in game prep on Monday and Tuesday, and then I'll go forward pretty much as the week progresses.
Regardless of whether the Dolphins advance to the postseason with a victory on Sunday and depending on how the Buffalo Bills do in their Week 18 matchup against the Patriots, McDaniel stated that there is no timetable for Tagovailoa's return.
"I know one thing for sure: Specifically as required, I haven't talked to Tua about when he plays. Again, it was made very plain that anything other than what we were doing that day would hinder his recuperation for him as a person."
Added him: "No timeline has been intentionally discussed by anyone, not even his head coach and the athlete. Again, I have no information of Tua's when, if, why, or how. Really, the most crucial approach we must follow is one that focuses on making him better every single day and restoring his personal health. Unfortunately, I don't really have a schedule."
