In round eight of their gripping light heavyweight match, Artur Beterbiev defeats Anthony Yarde.
In London, Artur Beterbiev defeated Anthony Yarde of Great Britain to retain his WBO, WBC, and IBF light-heavyweight world belts.
Eight rounds of spectacular back-and-forth fighting featured both fighters.
After shockingly hurting Beterbiev in the fifth round, Yarde was forced to stop the fight in the eighth after being knocked to the ground with a right hand.
Beterbiev, a Russian, maintained his perfect knockout record, while Yarde's hunt for a world championship continues.
Beterbiev told BT Sport, "I could say it was a bad fight, but I'm sitting here."
"Anthony can punch, and so can everyone in this category. I wish him success in the future because he is still young and has time.
As it was: Yarde loses to Beterbiev, who has "a monstrous reputation" Beterbiev, who is he?
If I'm being completely honest, I was ready for every punch, which is how I kept hitting him back.
Yarde won after an intense battle.
Despite entering the game as a heavy underdog, Yarde put up an outstanding performance that many people might have written off.
The 31-year-old Londoner's victory was compared to some of the biggest upsets to occur on British soil, but the scene was set for a classic as Yarde was greeted with a hero's welcome by the OVO Arena in Wembley.
Long sections of the first round were nervous, and Yarde was obviously frightened of the 38-year-old Russian's famous power, which had resulted in 18 knockouts in 18 fights.
However, the British fighter struck first with a superb counter left hook that knocked Beterbiev to the ground.
Beterbiev's corner yelled, "Fight this guy," and the undisputed champion did his best to comply by advancing wherever he could.
Because of Yarde's terrific counterpunching, Beterbiev's face turned crimson in the second round. When the Russian landed a lovely right hand, his opponent answered right away with another left hook.
Then, after Beterbiev did admirably to close the gap—a task he accomplished throughout the fight—Yarde was forced to fight his way out of the corner.
However, the audience was firmly on Yarde's side, and every single one of his shots was met with a thunderous cheer.
Yarde delivered a powerful uppercut that caught Beterbiev off guard, but he persisted in moving forward.
As Beterbiev picked up the pace in the fourth round, Yarde had no time to relax and was again taken aback.
Then, in the fifth, a firefight started when Yarde flushed Beterbiev with a huge right hand.
Beterbiev was obviously damaged, and the crowd was on its feet cheering for a finish, but to gain a few crucial seconds of recovery, the Russian threw himself into Yarde's arms.
Yarde pushed forward in an effort to stop the battle, but Beterbiev responded in like and threw a barrage of punches that left his opponent reeling as the final buzzer rang.
Beterbiev's left eye is now gushing blood, while Yarde's eye is getting bigger by the second.
In the sixth round, Yarde attempted to imitate the blow that had knocked Beterbiev off balance by going over the champion's jab, but this time his opponent was prepared for the onslaught.
The seventh round produced more stunning action as once again Yarde stepped forward and seemingly hurt Beterbiev.
But Beterbiev circled away from danger and masterfully turned the British fighter to trap him in the corner, where he then unloaded and a dazed Yarde could only stand his ground.
Yarde appeared on the verge of going down, but stayed on his feet and eventually was able to escape and see out the round.
The eighth round saw the final shots of an incredible fight. A tiring Yarde reached for a left uppercut, but Beterbiev read it beautifully and landed a strong right hand.
Another followed to floor Yarde and, while the challenger was able to get up, he looked back at his corner, clearly in two minds about whether to continue.
The referee allowed the fight to continue but Yarde's coach Tunde Ajayi quickly made the decision to wave the white flag as Beterbiev bared down on his fighter.
